Hats and Hands is a project to provide warm clothing to homeless and low-income people in Las Vegas during the winter season. Hats and scarves are knitted by many volunteers throughout the year to be given out at shelters and food closets across the city through UMSM (United Methodist Social Ministries).
During 2011 GVUMC people knitted 1277 hats and scarfs for this program.
In addition they knitted 200 hats for the shoe-box mission program of Women of Spirit, plus 226 baby bonnets for the Reservation Program. They also made 24 blankets to hand out to nursing home residents during the GVUMC Christmas Caroling program.
No experience is required to get involved with this ministry - the knitters are happy to teach newcomers. Contract Gudrun Cramp at 898-8497 to find out how and when.
