ThreeSquare Food Bank

Feeding the poor is definitely high on God's "Things To do" list.  The Three Square Food Bank is a local nonprofit that serves as the region's central food depository of donated food. The donated supplies come primarily from local stores and the Feeding America, formerly Second Harvest, food donation network. This nonprofit also operates a weekend backpack program to enable children whose families face food insecurities to bring home food to feed their families over the weekend when the school lunch program does not operate.  Three Square currently is feeding 7400 Clark County school children every week through this program.

GVUMC is committed to providing at least 15 volunteers once per month for the BackPack program.  Our time slot is the 1st Friday of each month from 9:00-noon.  To get involved contact Tom Stire at 629-7385.

In addition to the monthly BackPack Program, GVUMC periodically sends a team of church members to help at Three Square.  We commit to 3 hours on a Saturday morning, travel to Three  Square as a group, and assist them with sorting, inspecting and packaging food to go to nearly 300 local food pantries.

On July 29 our church will have a wonderful opportunity for  multi-generational (ages 12 and up) local mission service at Three Square.  Our commitment is to provide a minimum of 40 volunteers to work at the Three Square warehouse from 10:00 am -2:00 pm. We will leave the church parking lot at 9:00 am and travel to the warehouse which is located in the vicinity of North Pecos and Craig Road, near to Interstate 15 north.  We invite individuals and families to join in this project.  What better way to demonstrate our love for our neighbors here in Las Vegas than work at the food bank warehouse?  After all, Joseph was in charge of Pharaoh’s warehouse in Egypt, whereas all we have to do is volunteer to assist on one Saturday. Surely we will receive a blessing from this work that is much greater than the time and effort expended as we will learn more about what is being done to feed the poor in our own community.
