Adult Christian Education

The Mission of Christian Education is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to prepare people for ministry and evangelism by teaching Christian principles, modeling Christ-like character, and providing an environment that encourages and nurtures Christian fellowship. A variety of classes are offered in the Fall and in the Spring for those wishing to have an indepth opportunity to study God's word, His will for your life and effective ways to grow in your spiritual life.

Our adult education classes are open to all and any are welcome to drop in and check us out.  These classes aim to enrich the fellowship of faith, provoke questions and seek answers, and deepen the discipleship journey.

We believe that Christian Education is a fundamental part of our growth as Christians. GVUMC offers many opportunities including:

 

There will be numerous adult classes offered at 9:45 am. These classes run 4 to 8 or more weeks each. You can join anytime!

 

Ongoing Class

  • WALKING THROUGH THE BIBLE - Join us for an active study and discussion on the books of the Bible. each week we will address the following questions: What does the Bible say?, What does the Bible mean? and What does the Bible mean to me? Get in on the ground floor of an exciting walk through the Bible. This class meets in Room E-4.

 

FRESH BEGINNINGS (New Members Class)

 

Fresh Beginnings is the required course for church membership at Green Valley United Methodist Church. This 7-week course allows participants to gain insight into what it means to be a disciple of Christ, how to deepen one’s faith journey, who is a “Methodist,” and what it means to be a member of Green Valley UMC.  If you are interested in the Fresh Beginnings classes, please sign up by calling the church office. Classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45 and Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm.

Adult Education classes this Fall 2016

  • Sundays 9:45–10:45 am - Walking Through the Bible – Room E4
    • Are you interested in learning how, when and where Christianity has its roots?  The “Walking Through the Bible” class started in Genesis and will eventually finish with Revelation.  The Old Testament points to the New Testament.  It’s history and theology.  Come join in the discussion to learn and participate. This is a group participation so you can ask all those questions you have had.  If we can’t answer them right away we will find someone who can.  You can drop in at any time during any of the studies. This is an ongoing class.
  • Sundays 9:45–10:45 am – Assurance of Salvation – starts September 11 – Room E10
    • In this 10-week series, Dr. R.C. Sproul addresses the importance of living in pursuit of holiness over against “easy believism.” He explores the doctrine of assurance as he helps to explain the relationship between the Christian life and the work of Christ Jesus on our behalf.
  • Sundays 11:15-12:15 am - Disciple Fast Track (Old Testament) – starts September 11 – Room E10
    • This 12-week study immerses the participant in the Old Testament.

Disciple Fast Track, an adaptation of the original, bestselling Disciple Bible Study, provides a viable option for busy people seeking comprehensive engagement over time with the entire biblical text. Participants read a manageable 3-5 chapters of the Bible daily in preparation for the weekly meetings.

  • Mondays 6:30–7:30 pm – Disciple Fast Track (Old Testament) – starts September 12 – Room E10
    • This 12-week study immerses the participant in the Old Testament.

  • Wednesdays 6:00-7:30 pm –How it Works by Pastor Mark – starts September 28 – Room E10
    • This 8-week class is a study on the United Methodist Church Governance
  • Wednesdays 6:00-7:30 pm – Love to Stay – Adam Hamilton – starts September 28 – Room E
    • In this 6-week class, Adam Hamilton explores how, with God’s help, we can make love last. Drawing upon a survey of thousands of couples and singles, interviews with relationship and marriage therapists, the latest research in the field, and wisdom from the Bible, Hamilton looks at what it takes to create and sustain healthy, meaningful romantic relationships across the course of a lifetime.
