"To share the Love of God, proclaim the Good News of Christ Jesus our Lord, and encourage fellowship in the Holy Spirit" has been my motto and direction for over 40 years of ministry.

My faith journey began at First German Congregational Church in Lincoln, NE. where I was baptized and confirmed.  I became a United Methodist while attending Nebraska Wesleyan University.  Wesleyan theology and the gifts it brings to the Christian world resonated with my soul.  Graduating from Iliff School of Theology, in Denver, Co. and receiving my Doctorate from Drew University, Madison, New Jersey continues to impact my life.

My family is an integral part of my ministry.  Lynn has been my partner in ministry for over 40+ years and our two sons, Jayson (Des Moines, Iowa) and Jeremy (Lincoln, NE) joined us during our early years.  Lindsay (Jeremy's wife) has brought a wonderful sparkle to our family in the past 10 years.   My father and his wife, Donna live in Englewood, FL, while my mother-in-law lives in Nebraska.  Brothers, sisters and in-laws are all over the nation. They all humble and guide me appropriately, as families do.

My ministry as been based around, We are ALL welcome, All children of God and all One in Christ Jesus.   I have had the privilege of serving nine United Methodist Churches in Nebraska, ranging from rural to multi-staff urban churches in the Nebraska Annual Conference.  Most recently, the United Methodist Church in Green Valley, AZ. in the Desert Southwest Conference.  Each community provided lessons and gifts that have enhanced my ministry to share the love of Jesus Christ.  Leadership roles such as chair of Board of Ordained Ministry and chair of Methodist Federation for Social Action, taught me tenacity and boldness for God's people.

My Belief is based around the following:

I believe that there is neither

  • Jew nor Greek
  • Slave nor Free
  • Male nor Female
  • Straight nor Gay
  • Black nor White

We are ALL welcome, All Children of God and all one in Christ Jesus.

The love of Christ should control us, we should bear each others burdens.

Faith should always work through love.

I believe in listening to the voice of God through team ministry.

  • There is wisdom within each of us
  • Love and relationships are more important that rules

God is vastly more immense than all of our theology and philosophy combined

My personal life, having been born on April 1st has set me up for a life of humor.  Bad jokes, punsters and comedic routines are part of my JOY.  I veg out on Star Trek, Star Wars and love to find the connection between the fictional and the counter culture world that I would love to create or recreate.  I am picky when it comes to the fictional genre, the Good must win, otherwise I'm not a happy camper. As YODA so wisely states,   "Do or do not, there is no try!"  I continue to DO!!! and love Doing it here at Green Valley United Methodist Church.

I am blessed to serve as your pastor!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Financial and Membership Secretary. My name is Kristy Marie Albanese. My family and I relocated to Henderson in October, 2000 to escape the cold bitter winters of Long Island, New York.
I have earned an Associates Degree of Business from the College of Southern Nevada and a Bachelors of Science Degree from Nevada State College. I have done accounting and administrative work in the restaurant industry, and for a large real estate company here in the valley.  I also had the pleasure of working as a Veterinary Technician in Training in two Veterinary Hospitals and a Wildlife Biologist for an environmental company.
When I’m not working I enjoy being out doors as much as possible. My family and I love to travel.  We like to go camping, ride our four wheelers and hike. When we can’t get away we like to relax in our backyard, swim and spend time with our two dogs. I am looking forward to and am very excited about using my experience to serve our church.

Heather Scobie

Heather Scobie is currently in her sixteenth year of teaching.   She has taught in the Las Vegas area for the past fifteen years, having taught her first year in Oklahoma.  Heather came to Las Vegas as a choral director at Keller Middle School.  After two years, she was asked to join the teaching staff at a new school, Harney Middle School.  During Heather’s five years of teaching at Harney, she built the program from the ground up, establishing a tradition of excellence!  By the time Heather left Harney Middle School, she had over 400 students singing in the program with all choirs receiving superior ratings at all festival events.  During her time as a middle school choir director, Heather held leadership positions in the Clark County School District as Honor Choir Coordinator and the East Zone Middle School Representative.  Heather also held leadership roles with the Music Educator’s Association for the State of Nevada as the Solo and Ensemble chairperson.  Heather was honored by her colleagues in 2005-2006 with an award that she holds very dear to her heart, New Music Educator of the Year.  Another highlight of Heather’s middle school experience is her publication in the American Choral Director’s Association Western Division’s newsletter, Tactus …”What Does It Take To Create a Successful Junior High/Middle School Choral Program?”  After publication she was then asked to discuss her article as well as present a reading session at the Four Corners Workshops in Flagstaff, Arizona in 2007.

Mrs. Scobie was then given the opportunity to move to the high school level in 2007-2008 when she accepted the teaching position at Las Vegas High School.  While at Las Vegas High School, Heather continued with all the rich traditions that were already in place as well as beginning a few new ones.  Her choirs at Las Vegas High School performed with grace, musicality and superior sound.  In 2009, Heather joined the Fine Arts Department at Foothill High School where she once again began building a program of excellence!  She continued working with the outstanding students and faculty until 2013.  While at Foothill High School, she grew the choral program from 130 students to over 240, receiving superior ratings at district and out of state festivals.

As a high school choral director, she continued to give her time and energy to the Clark County School District as the Zone 2 Representative for high school choral directors and sat on several planning committees for professional development events.  Heather has served as the Nevada Music Educator’s All-State Housing Chair for three years and 2014 ended her six year service for the State of Nevada as an All-State Choir Committee Member/Chairman.  Throughout Heather’s teaching career, she continuously works on her craft by studying conducting with outstanding choral conductors such as Ronald Staheli, Rodney Eichenberger and Donald Brinegar.

Most days, you will find Heather spending her time as a stay at home mom raising her family of four boys.  However, she is often called upon by her colleagues to be a guest clinician in their choral classrooms.   She is also enjoying her time teaching at The College of Southern Nevada as adjunct faculty.  This will be Mrs. Scobie’s second year conducting the College Singers and her second semester teaching a voice class as well as private voice students.  Music is her passion and she is thrilled to been given this opportunity to work with the talented people at GVUMC as the Director of Music Ministries!

I was born in Eloy, Arizona. As the daughter of a Methodist minister,  I grew up moving from church to church in California, Nevada, and Arizona.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in May of 2002.   I have taught third, fourth, and fifth grades in North Las Vegas and Arizona.  I married my wonderful husband, Jeremiah, in 2009 and have been teaching kindergarten at a charter school for the last two years.  We welcomed our first son, Lucas James, in October of 2010 and our first daughter, Amelia Rose, in May of 2012.  I am thrilled to be the Children’s Ministry Coordinator for Green Valley UMC for so many reasons.  I love to teach children about Jesus and the difference He makes in all of our lives and I love to learn the simple truths that only children can teach us.  I also love working with the incredible staff and volunteers of this church.  I am looking forward to what God has planned for this ministry.
