Acolytes are young people (from 2nd grade up through 5th grade) who assist during worship services that begin at 8:15, 9:45 and 11:15.

Lighted candles on the communion table represent the light of Christ. Therefore, when the acolytes walk down the church aisle to light the candles, symbolically they are carrying the light of Christ into the service, and worship begins.

At the end of the service, the acolytes—after lighting the acolyte tapers they carry—then snuff out the communion table candles and walk back up the aisle with their lighted tapers which symbolizes taking the light of Christ and the love of God into the world.

Acolytes also assist during offering time by carrying the offering up to the front of the sanctuary where a prayer of thanksgiving is said.
